There are many ways to get involved and contribute to CCMSA's purpose. We encourage you to roll up your sleeves and take on a hands-on volunteer experience by working on an Alliance service project. These initiatives provide the opportunity to connect with the community and make a direct impact in the lives of Charleston residents for as little as one or two hours per project or as much time and energy as you are willing to dedicate.

Join Daniel Island fourth graders for an eye-opening hour of fascinating health facts and discoveries at the CCMSA “Commit to Be Fit” Health Fair. We need 10-12 volunteers to help oversee nine interactive learning stations that promote healthier lifestyle choices and highlight “Eat Smart, Move More.” If you would like to help, please email Lauren Sutton at

Health fairs are geared toward educating children about the health risks associated with childhood obesity, and more importantly, how to overcome them. Through a format of nine interactive learning stations, health fairs offer a vast breadth of fascinating information from healthy snack options and how to read food labels to engaging, visual representations of sugars, fat and proper portion sizes. The importance of exercise and fitness is also encouraged. Health fairs are eye-opening and fun for both children and volunteers.

Join CCMSA for our second volunteer opportunity at the Lowcountry Food Bank as we help to provide children who are at risk for weekend hunger with nutritious food to sustain them through the weekend. Chronic food insecurity presents a serious threat to disadvantaged children. Backpack Buddies helps by nourishing these children when they are not in school, which greatly improves their ability to thrive in school and beyond.
The Lowcountry Food Bank’s programs represent a significant stride in the road to alleviating childhood hunger across the Lowcountry. This event is a wonderful opportunity to get involved and support this invaluable organization’s work! To participate, email us at ccmsapres@gmail.com or fill out the form below.
The Lowcountry Food Bank’s BackPack Buddies program attacks the issue of weekend hunger for children in our community. In 2011, 85,000 backpacks were distributed to 2,600 children at 48 school sites throughout 10 coastal counties of South Carolina.
The School Pantry program is a national program of Feeding America – The Nation’s Food Bank Network. The mission of the School Pantry Program is to help alleviate child hunger through the provisions of food to children and their families at school. The Lowcountry Food Bank is currently serving over 400 families every month through this program.
We will volunteer at the Lowcountry Food Bank at various times this year, so please sign up if you are interested in joining us.
